Bryan Neal

Bryan Neal is one of our resident Ultra-Marathoners. He is the owner and head coach at Cypress Pointe Gymnastics in Ponchatoula, La. He’s coached two US National Champions and had 17 athletes go on to compete in college gymnastics. “I have been blessed to coach some amazing athletes for over 25 years”.

Bryan’s running partner in crime is his wonderful wife of 21 years, Wendi Neal. “We run together weekly and have paced each other through our hardest races. I could never have gotten thru some of my crazier races without her”. Bryan first got the ultra bug at the Gulf Coast Half Marathon 5 years ago. Since that time he’s predominantly raced trail races in the Southern US and local road races. “Some of my favorite accomplishments are winning my age division in the Hells Hills Half Marathon, second place age division finish in the Thinderbird Trail Half Marathon and a second place finish in the Dirty Soles Half Marathon”. Bryan’s Half Marathon PR is 1:42, at the Disney Wine and Dine Half. Other accomplishments are a top 10 age division place in his first Ultra Marathon, the Full Moon 50 miler in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. He’s also completed the Cajun Coyote 100k Run and the Q50 Bogue Chitto Marathon two weeks later. Bryan also ran the Rouge Orleans ultra-marathon as a 6 person team member and later paced the Canadian National Champion at the Rouge Orleans Ultra. Bryan participated in many local ultras and most recently did the Hotter than Hell 10 hour race on July 4th in New Orleans.

“I love training with local runners in the Hammond area and can be found many mornings pounding the sidewalks around SELU”.

Wendi Neal

Wendi Neal is a registered nurse at North Oaks Hospital. She has a beautiful family-17 year old Mackenzie, 12 year old Marina and wonderful husband Bryan who is her faithful running partner. “He is my motivator and has helped me reach more personal goals than I ever could have done on my own.” Together they enjoy running both road races and trail races.

Some of Wendi’s race accomplishments include 2nd place age division in 7k Turkey Trot, 2nd place age division Hammond Rotary Club 10k Shamrock Run, and 2nd place age division/4th place overall female in her FIRST trail marathon, the Q50 Marathon. She also ran as a team member in the Rouge-Orleans 126.2 miles Ultra Marathon and helped pace a pair of runners in the same race the following year. Wendi loves traveling to destination races and has made a ton of new running friends in the Baton Rouge area when she did the Full Moon Trail Run in Arkansas and tent-camped with them that weekend. Wendi and her husband are members of LUR, Louisiana Ultra Runners, and often participate in their Friday Night Runs (FNR) out at the Mandeville Trail Head and Nature Center and can sometimes be found on the Old Manchac Road running the short trek from Ponchatoula to LaPlace. Great group of people if you like to run far. Most recently, she won the Masters female age division of the Jacks 50k Ultra Marathon Trail Run in Palm Coast, Florida. Trail running is a favorite of hers and she enjoys both short and long distances across the country. Her favorite trail is local - Bogue Chitto State Park above Folsom offers rolling hills and occasional water traps on well-maintained trails. Wendi and Bryan frequently enjoy weekend runs there. Meet them for a run anytime!

Deborah Shuman

Three years ago, Deborah’s friend challenged her to participate in the Crescent City Classic. She had not run in 5 years, when she was pregnant with her first daughter. “I had forgotten how much I loved running until I started training for the classic.” Since then, she’s run in approximately 20 local races, as well as the Houston half-marathon and a Disney 5K. Deborah has placed 1st overall in the Women’s division in a number of local runs including the Turkey Day 7K.

“As a mother, I want to be healthy for my children. As a physician, I want to set a good example for my patients, to "practice what I preach". I have found that I can run faster now in my 40's than I could in my 20's. It's never too late to begin. I'm excited to work with Perfectly Fit to continue providing fun and challenging races for our community.”

Tara Davis

Tara Davis began her passion for running from the encouragement of a good friend and his contagious enthusiasm for the sport. Starting from barely doing a mile, she has trained to running marathons. She said “If you would have told me to run anything over a mile, 3.5 years ago, I would have told you that you were crazy and I hated running any long distances”. Since then Tara has completed five full marathons, placing 3rd in her age group in the most recent one. She has also powered through six half-marathons, a 70.3 (also placing 3rd in her age group), eight sprint distance triathlon, an Olympic distance triathlon, and numerous 5K/10K runs. Tara says that running has led her to meeting some of the greatest friends who also share her passion. She is excited to have found a running buddy in her 6 year old son, Gray, and the best cheer section for the two of them in her husband Darren!

“I couldn’t be more excited to be chosen as an Ambassador; to be able to represent a sport I love so much with a business that loves it as much as I do and who, also, supports the community I call Home.”
- Tara Davis
